History
In 2016, the Center for Public Safety Excellence® (CPSE®) began considering a role beyond accreditation and credentialing to achieve our mission of leading the fire and emergency service to excellence. In 2020, CPSE published the 2021-2023 Strategic Plan that included a strategic goal of launching a center for innovation.
Development
In August 2021, a small group met in Mesa, AZ to conduct a human-centered design activity. As part of designing the future center, the group was focused on how best to address an industry-wide gap in evidence-based decision making that would highlight solutions developed by accredited agencies and credentialed professionals.
In 2022, CPSE began prototyping and piloting proposed products and services. In 2023, CPSE engaged a business development firm to assist in planning for the new center. The following year, CPSE secured IRS non-profit status for the new CPSE Center for Innovation and seated a new Board of Directors.
Launch
On August 5th, 2024, during the CPSE Summer Symposium, CPSE introduced the CPSE Center for Innovation. A wholly owned 501 (c)(3) nonprofit subsidiary, the CPSE Center for Innovation will catalyze innovation in the fire and emergency service.
